SMCO Training Highlights Major Changes from the 2006 to 2012 Codes

For more than 6 months, the HBA of Greater Springfield Regulatory Advocacy Committee has worked closely with area code officials to review and discuss amendments to the 2012 International Residential Code as area jurisdictions work toward adoption in the next few months to a year. Most jurisdictions will be transitioning from the 2006 IRC to the 2012 IRC.

And, even with some of the proposed amendments, there will still be a number of significant changes between the two versions. To help with the eventual transition to implementing the 2012 IRC as it is adopted this year and in early 2013, the Southwest Missouri Code Officials (SMCO) organization is offering a seminar on Tuesday, April 3 entitled “Major Changes from the 2006 IRC and IBC to the 2012 Codes”.

This full day seminar will highlight the major code changes from the 2006 International Building Code and the 2006 International Residential Code to the 2012 code edition including:

  1. Identifying the most significant differences between the 2006, 2009, and the 2012 IBC & IRC
  2. Explaining the differences between the current and previous editions
  3. Identifying changes in organization and code requirements
  4. Identifying the applicability of design, plan review, and inspection requirements

The cost of the full day seminar is $60 for members of SMCO (annual membership is $15) or $75 for non-members. Registration fee includes lunch and pre-registration is required. You can download the registration flyer by clicking here.

Springfield BDS Closed on April 3

The Building Development Services Department of the City of Springfield will be closed on April 3rd in order to allow the inspectors and staff to attend the training seminar. The phones will be manned and any requested concrete inspection will be performed.  All other inspections requested for that day will be performed on the following day.
