MSU Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter Receives $5,000 State Farm Grant

Missouri State University’s Habitat for Humanity campus chapter has been selected to receive a $5,000 matching grant from State Farm, the national corporate sponsor of Habitat’s youth programs. Across the Country, State Farm is providing grants to more than 30 youth groups to engage youth in Habitat’s home construction and Neighborhood Revitalization activities.
“We are grateful to have been selected as one of the matching grant recipients,” said Caitlan Schasteen, Missouri State University (MSU) chapter president. “This grant will allow us to rehabilitate three homes for families in our community.”

A Habitat campus chapter is a student led, student-initiated organization on a high school or college campus that partners with the local Habitat affiliate to build, fundraise, advocate and educate to support the work of Habitat for Humanity. MSU’s campus chapter has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, MO since 1988 and will use these funds to support three rehabilitation projects.

The MSU Habitat for Humanity campus chapter will host a kickoff celebration for the grant funded rehabilitations on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. located at 1737 N. Kentwood, Springfield, MO, 65803. (Please do not reprint address.)

Repairs include replacing windows to increase energy efficiency and rebuilding part of an unstable front porch for the Oswald Family and replacing windows and repairing rotten window frames and fascia for the Fleetwood Family. The largest of the three projects will assist the Coker Family by replacing flooring and cabinets in the kitchen, flooring in the entry way, and repair to bedroom ceilings that were damaged by a leaking roof.
