Is 4K the next BIG thing in TV Tech? Urban Legend or REAL?

4K Resolution: What’s it all about?

Larry2-SCSDo you love your TV? If so, you may have heard about the latest quest for the amazing ultra high definition 4K televisions. If you haven’t, you’re about to.

Now that we have everything ironed out with high definition TV’s from the late 1990’s and into the 2000’s the guys that wear the propeller hats have come up with our next big thing! 4K TV’s.

Most people immediately ask “What does 4K mean?”
Good question.

Let me see if I can put this into perspective for you.

* In 1954 RCA released its 15″ Color TV that was $1,000. At that time the standard resolution was typically 525 Horizontal lines and 700 Vertical lines. That standard held for a long time.

* In the late 1990’s, High Definition Television (HDTV) was introduced. This brought us to a new resolution of 1080 Horizontal lines and 1920 Vertical lines. This was ground breaking technology that changed everything we knew about TV’s.

* In the mid 2000’s the guys with the propeller hats discovered they could double the frame rate and make more improvements to the picture and came out with 1080PPropHats
(P for progressive = double the frame rate = sharper picture). We thought we had peaked the resolution standard as we knew it. Nope…not yet.

* In 2012, Sony unveiled the first 4K Television. This new technology featured a resolution of 2160 Horizontal lines and 3840 vertical lines. The industry didn’t really take to the term 3.842K resolution so they rounded it up a little. Thus the term “4K” meaning this TV has (close to) 4,000 vertical lines of resolution. Pretty impressive and yet again ground breaking technology.

So here we are 4 years later and the new 4K technology is not so new. In fact, most manufacturers’ don’t even make TV’s that aren’t 4K resolution unless its 40″ or smaller.

These new TV’s are amazing and to make it even more appealing to the consumers they have put in upscaling technology so just about anything you watch will be displayed in 4K resolution. Pair that with LED technology and these new TV’s cost about $25 to operate for an entire year!

4k-HDRStill have more questions? Come by and see us. We feature Sony 4K televisions that start at $699 all the way up to the exclusive Sony Z9D series flagship that leaves everyone else behind. In fact, this TV is so much better than every other TV, Sony made this statement:

“These are the best TV’s that Sony has ever made and offer unparalleled contrast, color and clarity.”

That’s a pretty strong statement. The best they have ever made. Sony has been in the TV business for a long time. Pretty Impressive.

I don’t know about you but I want one.
