Green Building
The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield represents the highest professional standard in the residential construction and remodeling industries. Through the HBA, industry professionals can earn a variety of National Association of Home Builders Professional Designations. Thanks to generous scholarship support from the HBA Charitable Foundation, and the support of HBA Professional Designations partner Herrman Lumber, the HBA of Greater Springfield has scheduled a full local courseload for completion of the CGB, CGR, CGA, CGP, and CAPS designations. These classes are guaranteed not to be cancelled, and they will allow for completion of all coursework for these designations, in Springfield, by the end of 2012. For more information on this program, browse or download the education catalog below. To sign up for classes use our online registration form. Other selected courses or specialties also are available that have direct and immediate positive impact for members and their customers. Whatever your approach, raising the education bar gives HBA members an edge on their competition and gives the ability to satisfy customers like never before!Builders’ Circle Blog: It Is Official—Springfield Is Number One!
How does it feel to be number one? Springfield is number one, according to WIKI. I found out accidentally when, with no special reason in mind, I Googled the question, “What city has the most varied weather?” That’s right, Springfield, Missouri is listed as having the most varied weather in this country. I really was not that surprised and probably …

Builders’ Circle Blog: How Low Can You Go?
Low is not always something we like to think about. To lower your driving speed when you are late for a doctor’s appointment, to get there just in time so he can tell you to lower your cholesterol and lower your weight, tends to give us a low, negative feeling. The doctor’s advice continues to include lowering carbs, lowering fat …

Builders’ Circle Blog: Green Comes in Many Colors
I don’t know whose idea it was or why Mom thought it was cool, but she did. This idea could be classed in the same league as “bell bottoms”, and likewise, never improved with time. Oh yes, it was green, but not the “green” we refer to today. This green was only skin deep, and on the inside it was …

Builders’ Circle Blog: Better Than Superman’s X-Ray Vision!
Superman can see through walls and know what a bad guy is doing, but he would miss what my infrared camera can see. Superman is no help on this job. Know this, there are lots of bad guys in your walls, and you cannot detect their thief-like tendencies. These so-called “bad guys”, however, are just doing their job. In fact, …

Builders’ Circle Blog: Don’t duck in the attic!

Yes, I have the title right. I meant “duck” (as to move, to avoid). I know the title doesn’t seem to make sense because we do want to duck in the attic, don’t we? If you have ever hit your head in the attic, it was an accident, you were not thinking or paying attention, and it hurt for a …

Builders’ Circle Blog: Is that Santa Up on the Roof?
No Santa, no red suit, no “Ho, Ho Ho”…in fact there is almost no sound at all on this roof. The color up there is a yellowish brown and is the gift that keeps on giving year-round. What’s “up on the roof top”, you ask? It is open cell spray foam, found on the under-side of the roof deck in …

Builders’ Circle Blog: Do People Dream in Color?
It is an old question, but it seems Yahoo has figured it out. In a 2012 Yahoo study it was discovered that Americans today dream of a “Green” home. They found that 81% of Americans want to own a home and 50% of them want it to be “Green.” The second favorite “dream” was a home with a water view …

Builders Circle Blog: Out of Sight, Out of Mind
We all have things we would rather not think about. Three that come to mind are taxes, dental appointments, and Crawl Spaces. Even though we may not like to think about any of these, the last two are definitely in the “do not like to go there” category. Are you surprised to find Crawl Space in my list? Most are …

Builders Circle Blog: How to Save $6 and Build a Better House!

Building green is about building better. It involves selecting the best of renewable resources, energy efficiency, conservation, sustainability…and simplicity. The biggest enemy of accomplishing these is habit. “The way we always do it” is hardly ever changed because “that’s the way we’ve always done it”. But in the first HBA Habitat Green Verified house it was decided to save $6.00 …
