BBB Wins Award for Operations

Better Business Bureau of Southwest Missouri is excited to announce they won an award for their operations. President and CEO Judy Mills accepted the award at the BBB Assembly conference in New Orleans, Louisiana on Monday, September 22.

The Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB) awards many BBBs each year for their operations, accreditations, advertising, branding, retention, outreach, and many more categories. Statistics are carefully looked at through an internal database for each BBB.

Categories are split in to A, B, and C—each reflecting the number of accredited businesses in a service area. Rated a “Category A,” BBB of Southwest Missouri serves 24 counties and nearly 26,000 businesses—1,180 of which are accredited. Of the 112 BBBs in the United States and Canada, BBB of Southwest Missouri was up against 42 other BBBs in “Category A.”

Rose Bruffett, Dispute Resolution Director, played a large part in how those statistics came to be for BBB of Southwest Missouri. She is the sole person in the office of five who handles complaints. Since joining the BBB organization in April 2013, Rose’s hard work and dedication to helping resolve disputes has not gone unnoticed.

Five elements went in to the operations category. Averaging these elements is how the winner was chosen. Here are the statistics for BBB of Southwest Missouri out of 43 BBBs in Category A:

Resolution rate: 82% overall resolution rate for BBB of SWMO; ranked 6th
Complaint rate (the number of reportable complaints divided by the number of businesses in the Southwest Missouri area): ranked 8th
Days to open complaints: ranked 4th
Days to close complaints: ranked 23rd
Inquiry rate (the number of inquiries divided by the number of businesses in the Southwest Missouri area): ranked 10th

“I am so proud of my staff and the work that we have accomplished together as a team in the last year,” said Mills. “Our dedication to BBB’s mission and values is what won us this award. We are honored and pleased that our hard work has paid off.”

Mills learned at this year’s conference BBB of SWMO came in second in the operations category in 2013. BBB of Southwest Missouri plans to enter more categories next year, and is dedicated to making 2015 an even better year.
